Who are you?

Ruby's Roots and Shoots was started by Chloe, a passionate environmental scientist who has a love for gardening. Named after her beautiful Greyhound, Ruby, the brand takes inspiration from Ruby in so many ways. Ruby reminds us to stop and smell the flowers, keep things simple, and do what you love. We view gardening the same way. Ruby's Roots and Shoots is dedicated to keeping gardening simple and affordable, all while promoting skills of self-sufficiency, bonding with nature and being connected to the food we eat.

We are dedicated to helping gardeners, especially small space gardeners, make the most of the space they have. Whether it's one planter box, or a half acre garden, growing the things we love, that nourish us, and the things we love looking at, shouldn't be hard or break the bank. We provide practical solutions to small space growing with our planter bags and affordable growing for all sized spaces with our great range of seedlings.

Coming from an Environmental Science background, how we treat the earth is always at the core of what we do. We aim to be zero waste, with our punnet take-back scheme, as well as using low emissions vehicles and always striding to uphold the value of kaitiakitanga.

Where are you based?

Currently, we do not have a fixed location and travel around various markets in the Auckland region. If you'd like to see where we'll be next, check out our upcoming events page, or sign up to our email list to get automatically notified of where we'll be next!

Can I pick up my order?

You can pre-order to pick up at our next market. The options of locations and dates will be given at the checkout when you go to place your order. If you are unable to collect your order on the given date, you will have the option to add it onto your account as store credit, or pick it up at our next market

Where do you source your plants from?

We grow all of our own vegetables from seed, and all our houseplants from seed, cuttings or other propagation methods. This allows us to ensure the optimal growing conditions when the plants are young, to promote the growth of healthy plants in the long run.

Do you have a grow guarantee?

Unfortunately, as we are unable to know the conditions the plants are kept in once they leave us, we cannot guarantee the success of any given plant. Rest assured, we try to ensure the healthiest plants possible leave with you to give them the best chance!

Do you offer bulk discounts?

Yes, we have discounts available when you purchase more than one set! 

Can I mix-and-match my plants?

The website has plants available in pack sizes, but at the markets, you can mix and match any plants in the same price range. This means you can pick up a range of 6-20 different seedlings for your garden for one great price!

What is your pot take-back scheme?

We are committed to being the lowest impact on the environment possible, so we are using low-waste growing techniques to try to minimise our waste generation. Where it is not possible to have a seedling in a soil block, we use pots, but if you don't need these after you have transplanted your pot, simply bring them back to us and we will re-use or recycle the pot. Just ensure it has the "Roots and Shoots" sticker still on the pot and you'll even receive $2 in store credit for every 8 pots you return! Recycle and get rewarded for it, win-win!
